Evening Worship Returns to Hancock Church
LEXINGTON—Informal, welcoming, participatory—these are all words used to describe the Evening Worship experience at Hancock Church: an experience that has been missing during the pandemic. Happily, after a two year hiatus, Evening Worship returns starting Sunday, March 6 at 4:00pm.
“Evening worship is casual and intimate, yet rich in ritual. We light candles, we pray, we pass the bread and the cup, all amidst beautiful music set to guitar, drum, and the occasional mandolin. It’s church that’s a bit out of the box, yet not so far out that it’s trying to be something else,” says Senior Minister Barbara Callaghan. Communion is celebrated each week, and joys and concerns are shared, with an overall focus on community and connection.
Music, provided by the River Rock Band, is diverse and ranges from roots/acoustic to jazz, gospel, Celtic, world, and more. The band has recorded two albums, and their music can be heard on all the major streaming platforms.
The service is open to all, regardless of age or sexual orientation; those new to their faith journey or raised in a different tradition—all are welcome. The service takes place in Clark Hall of Hancock Church, 1912 Massachusetts Ave on the Battle Green in Lexington. Parking is available in the rear of the church, and the building is handicap accessible. For more information, go to www.hancockchurch.org, or call the office at 781-862-4220.
Reverend Callaghan sums it up: “It’s church that smells and tastes good, and leaves you feeling warm and connected to yourself, God and others.”
