Hancock Church is a congregational church and member of the United Church of Christ. We are reliant on our own resources for everything we do, from staffing to building maintenance to missions.
Our operating funds come from several sources:
- Current contributions from members and friends (this covers about 70% of our budget);
- Distributions from special funds, endowments and reserves at Hancock;
- Building rental income; and
- Grants.
Every year we develop a financial plan (budget) to determine how all of the key functions of the church will be funded and at what level. To provide an informed estimate of what our income will be, in the fall a call or “appeal” goes out to the congregation. During the few weeks of the appeal, we ask members for a good faith estimate of what they anticipate giving to Hancock in the coming year to support the work of the church, in a process known as “pledging.”
Read updates about this year’s appeal.
In addition to our operating budget, from time to time we conduct capital campaigns to fund needed capital improvements to our building and programs. We are in the midst of the construction phase of a capital campaign right now to make our chancel accessible and refurbish our sanctuary.
To learn more about our budget and how we put it to use, see our one-page Budget Overview and our Summary of some of what we accomplished in the last year, “changing the world through love, compassion, and courage.”
